Patrick Wild Centre to study a memory based intervention for fragile X syndrome

Published Feb 2015

The Patrick Wild Centre have recently been awarded funding to conduct a pilot study in people with fragile X syndrome of an intervention called Cogmed which is designed to improve a particular type of memory, called working memory.

It is thought that working memory is particularly affected in people with fragile X syndrome, but it is not known whether interventions to improve working memory are useful or even possible in affected people.  We hope that this study will be a step towards answering these questions.

The study will be funded by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund and we hope to begin in mid 2015.

If you would like any further information about the planned study then please contact Dr Sonya Campbell, Research Fellow in Clinical Psychology, by emailing sonya.campbell@ed.ac.uk.

Some general information about Cogmed is available here.
